In April 2019, the unemployment rate reached 3.6 percent, the lowest rate since the 1960s. Looking at a broad range of labor market indicators, we conclude that the US labor market is now tighter than it was in 2007, which was the peak of the expansion prior to the financial crisis, and in some occupations, the tightest since at least the 1960’s.
