As my daughter finishes up her sophomore year, she and I are entering our fifth year as part of National Charity League. NCL is a nationwide service organization that pairs mother and daughters for volunteer hours with local nonprofits. I am proud to have logged almost 100 hours with her and look forward to our next three years.
This year, she and I have been selecteed among our entire chapter to onboard a new nonprofit into the organization. Angels for Hearts provides gifts to pediatric patients in the cardiac units at local hospitals during Christmastime. Founders Curtis and Patricia Kaufman realized the needs of hospitalized children after their daughter Kimberly was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Ineligible for a heart transplant, the Kaufman Family found themselves in and out of the hospital, leaving little normalcy for their daughter. They understand that Christmas gifts and a little cheer can go a long way to relieving some stress in the lives of these young patients. And I am thrilled to have gotten to know the Kaufmans and spread their message to the women and girls in NCL.
I encourage anyone mother and daughter with a chapter in their area to investigate NCL. It has been a fulfilling and rewarding experience to serve our community together.
