New Year, New Goals

As the New Year approaches, it’s natural to feel a bit excited by the prospect of leaving behind the old year and beginning anew and making big plans. It’s without a doubt more so this year. And yet, how are we to make a plan and set goals when so much is unknown?

My answer is always….”control the things you can control”.  Setting a New Year’s resolution may help, but be careful.  Did you know that about 60% of us take the time to make New Year’s resolutions.  But by February, 80% have already given up.

Set yourself up for success by creating realistic, achievable and controllable goals.  Getting healthy? That is something you can control. Reading more? That one is also in your control. How about giving more, saving more, and decluttering? What about learning a new skill, finishing that degree, or starting a group for something you’re passionate about? How about upgrading your technology or workspace? What about focusing on things that bring you mental health and clarity?

These are just a few ideas to bring in a happy, healthy, and productive new year.  If 2020 taught us nothing else, it’s that we can only control the controllables.
